The Starlight Children’s Foundation who set out to brighten the lives of sick kids and have been doing it for 30 years, is a charity close to the hearts of the both Andrew and Lorica Clarke founders of Cashrewards. Since our beginning, we here at Cashrewards have been supporting the foundation where we can. If it isn’t through our 1% pledge, it’s hitting the streets of Sydney to raise much-needed funds to brighten the lives of sick kids. With the money raised, we’ve helped over 1600 kids have a brighter day and we’re anxiously wanting that number to climb higher.
Starlight’s mission is “To brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families” and they have done just that! For Cashrewards founders Andrew and Lorica, Starlight was just what they needed to shine a bright light on a couple of years of stress and heartache. For two years whilst their son, Sam was undergoing treatment and also during his recovery, the Foundation reached out to them and aided the family and Sam. And Andrew, Lorica and Sam will forever be very appreciative of the support they received.
Our 1% pledge to Starlight, has meant that we’ve managed to raise a staggering $51,745 between July 2017 and March 2018. And, we couldn’t have done it without the help of our members. Because of your enthusiasm to make your purchases through our website, you have also allowed us to contribute 1% of cashback payments, along with employee time and equity to helping seriously ill children. Our members continued enthusiasm to use Cashrewards means that by the end of this financial year we estimate a total of $70,000 to be donated.
The money raised will go towards giving sick kid’s ongoing access to Starlight’s In-hospital Programs. To put it into perspective, just this quarter alone we’ve managed to help over 400 kid’s accessing the program for a whole year. And we’re thrilled to see children like five-year-old Ned (pictured above with Captain Starlight) who is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia getting all the support and cheer he needs to help him through his treatment.
With this in mind and Starlight’s mission statement well and truly taken to heart, on the 4th of May, our Cashrewards team donned their yellow t-shirts and armed with Starlight’s merchandise hit the streets of St Leonards in Sydney and did their bit to sell the merchandise and raise money from the generous donations of the general public- with great success! All merchandise was sold and the donations buckets were filled with coin. The funds raised out on the street were a great help from the general public on the day and the Cashrewards team appreciate everyone who bought or donated.
Sadly, there will always be sick kids and their families that need support, and charities like Starlight will always need our help to continue doing what they do. In order for them to keep up their great work, our donations as a community are everything!
